Freibrug vs Borussia Mönchengladbach 06/06/20

06 June 2020

Borussia Mönchengladbach head to the Schwarzwald-Stadion to take on Freiburg, looking to put an end to their three-game losing run in the away Bundesliga (BL) H2Hs.

The hosts have yet to find their footing since the league restart, having failed to pick up a win in four top-flight fixtures since football returned to action in May (D2, L2). One of the reasons for Freiburg’s poor results in the post-pandemic period is an attacking inconsistency that has seen them score under 1.5 goals in three of those four BL matches. In turn, only three sides have netted fewer BL home goals than Freiburg (16) so far, with the majority (69%) of those goals coming in the second half. Indeed, Christian Streich’s men know how to put up a late show, having found the net inside the final 15 minutes of play in six of 14 league home games, while shipping at least one in the same interval four times in the process.

In the meantime, the visitors have been an exciting team to watch since Germany’s top-tier competition returned to action, as three of their four league clashes after the coronavirus crisis have seen over 3.5 goals and both sides on the scoresheet (W2, D1, L1). Also, three of their four results (win/loss) during that four-game sequence have yielded a margin of at least three goals and witnessed the winner on the day win the first half ‘to nil.’ Yet, particularly vulnerable after the halftime break, the ‘Foals’ have shipped 67% (ten) of their 15 BL away goals conceded in the second half of play.
