France vs Peru 21/06/18

21 June 2018

After an unconvincing 2-1 win over Australia in their opening World Cup match, France will be facing off against Peru at the Central Stadium in Yekaterinburg, looking for another victory that would probably guarantee them a place among the top 16 teams of the tournament. As one of the best teams at the World Cup, Les Bleus, are faced with an immense pressure imposed by not just their fans but the whole football world, especially following two consecutive World Cup failures. Out of a total of six matches they’ve featured in this year, Didier Deschamps’ team lost only one while achieving four wins in the process, including the one against Australia. On the other hand, Peru that managed to qualify for the final tournament in the final round of the CONMEBOL qualification competition secured four consecutive victories in 2018, before drawing 1-1 with Sweden right before making a trip to Russia. A painful 1-0 defeat to Denmark last week has put La Blanquirroja in a difficult position, as they now have to beat France in order to avoid elimination.

After a disappointing performance against Australia, Mbappe and Dembele might start on the bench paving to way for Thomas Lemar and Olivier Giroud, while Paolo Guerrero might be the one to replace under performing Edison Flores in the final third.
