Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Eintracht Frankfurt 12/03/19

12 March 2019

In-form Fortuna Dusseldorf welcome the Champions League promotion fighters Eintracht Frankfurt to the Esprit Arena looking for revenge on a humiliating 7-1 loss in the first half of the season.

Seven victories in ten Bundesliga outings (W7, D1, L2) since mid-December have propelled Dusseldorf to the middle of the table, and they can now even hope to secure the Europa League promotion. Sitting eight points adrift of sixth-placed Bayer Leverkusen, the hosts come into this meeting after securing back-to-back BL triumphs in which they’ve scored six goals while conceded just one. Also, along with Borussia Monchengladbach, the returnees are the only team in the German top flight that is yet to play out a draw at home this campaign (W6, L6), with Friedhelm Funkel’s players achieving four wins in their last five BL home outings (W4, L1). Interestingly, all six of Fortuna’s home wins have seen them score 2+ match goals, while they’ve conceded over 1.5 goals per match in five of six defeats.

Although unbeaten in the Bundesliga in 2019, the visitors currently sit fifth in the table with a six-point deficit to fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach thanks to the fact they were held to four consecutive league draws before clinching two successive triumphs over Hannover 96 and TSG Hoffenheim. Another problem for the Eagles is the fact they’ve pulled off just one triumph on their last five road trips across all competitions (W1, D3, L1), with all three of their stalemates in that period ending with the identical 2-2 scoreline. Thanks to Adi Hütter’s attacking-minded football philosophy, seven of Eintracht’s last ten road clashes have produced over 2.5 goals, while six of them have seen goals on both ends.
