Fiorentina vs Torino

Stadio Artemio Franchi is the venue as Fiorentina and Torino battle it out for a place in the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

Fiorentina squeezed past Bologna 1-0 in the last Coppa Italia round to set up their sixth quarter-finals appearance in seven seasons. However, Vincenzo Italiano’s men have lost their winning touch in the aftermath, losing back-to-back Serie A fixtures before bouncing back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to hold Lazio to a 1-1 draw at the weekend. Back to Artemio Franchi, where they had been unbeaten in five straight competitive matches (W4, D1) before a 1-0 loss to non-other than Torino last time out, ‘La Viola’ are seeking revenge. Before that result, Fiorentina had won three consecutive home league H2Hs against ‘I Granata,’ so there’s every reason for optimism in Italiano’s corner.

Meanwhile, Torino fought back from a 2-0 deficit to hold Empoli to an enthralling 2-2 draw at the weekend, maintaining their decent domestic form in 2023 (W2, D3, L1). An unexpected 1-0 extra-time win at defending Serie A holders AC Milan in the last Coppa Italia round forms part of that run, giving ‘I Granata’ legitimate hopes of entering the semi-finals for the first time since 1992/93. Adding to this sentiment, Ivan Juric’s men have proved hard to beat on the road lately, going undefeated on their last five domestic travels (W2, D3). That’s a bit paradoxical, given that they netted under 1.5 goals four times during that five-match sequence.
