Fiorentina vs Roma
Stadio Artemio Franchi is the venue as Fiorentina and Roma go head-to-head in a handsomely-looking Serie A showdown.
Fiorentina have picked the worst possible moment to lose three consecutive Serie A matches for the first time since December 2019, as they are losing ground in the race for European qualification with time running out. Before slipping to a dreadful 4-0 defeat to Udinese in their most recent home league outing, ‘La Viola’ had won three successive Serie A matches at Artemio Franchi by an identical 1-0 scoreline. However, Roma’s visit to Florence will unlikely inspire Fiorentina’s bid to return to winning ways, as they’ve lost all five previous top-flight H2Hs, conceding 2+ goals in each. There’s still hope for Vincenzo Italiano’s men to avenge those defeats, as AC Milan and Inter Milan have racked up more home points in Serie A this season than Fiorentina (35 – W11, D2, L4).
On the other hand, Roma will show up in a confident mood after a hard-fought 1-0 home triumph over Leicester City fired them into the inaugural Europa Conference League showpiece. But ‘I Giallorossi’ are not enjoying the best of times in Serie A, where they’ve gone winless in three consecutive matches (D2, L1) following a run of three straight victories beforehand. Another scoring blank after a goalless home draw with Bologna last time out would see Roma go back-to-back Serie A games without finding the net for the first time in 2022. Though they are facing the risk of stringing together four Serie A outings without winning for the first time under Jose Mourinho’s stewardship, there’s a silver lining. They’ve won both previous league visits to Fiorentina despite conceding in each.
