Fiorentina vs Atalanta 15/01/20

15 January 2020

Fiorentina will be looking to halt a four-game winless run in competitive H2Hs with Atalanta (D2, L2) when the two sides face off in the Coppa Italia round of 16 at the Stadio Artemio Franchi this midweek.

A narrow 1-0 home triumph over SPAL at the weekend saw Fiorentina bring a four-game winless streak to an end (D2, L2) and keep a clean sheet for the first time since early December. Another success here would see the hosts put together two straight home wins for only the second time this season, but they do have an intimidating record in home H2Hs with Atalanta to draw inspiration from. The Viola have not lost a single competitive home H2H with La Dea in the 21st century, pulling off ten wins in 17 such meetings since the turn of the new millennium (D7). A lack of consistency could be setting them back here, as Giuseppe Iachini’s players have secured only three victories in their last eight competitive home fixtures (D2, L3), scoring one goal or less on six of those occasions.

Atalanta’s frustration boiled over after Luis Muriel failed to convert a spot-kick against Inter to stretch his team’s winning run to three matches. Nonetheless, Gian Piero Gasperini’s men have been impressive lately, picking up five wins in their last seven competitive outings (D1, L1). While four of those successes have been accompanied by a clean sheet and witnessed La Dea open the scoring inside the opening half an hour of play, all five have seen them score two or more goals. However, the Bergamo-based outfit have failed to live up to expectations when away from home lately, as they’ve secured just two wins in their last eight road trips in all competitions (D4, L2). Six of those eight games have produced over 2.5 goals, with five of them seeing both teams score.
