Feyenoord vs Villarreal

Feyenoord and Villarreal are set to face off against each other in an exciting pre-season friendly at De Kuip.

Fresh off hoisting their first Eredivisie title in six years, Feyenoord enjoyed a stellar start to their pre-season tour, winning back-to-back summer friendlies over Zwolle and Club Brugge by a two-goal margin. However, the wheels have fallen off since as Arne Slot’s men head into proceedings winless in their last two outings (D1, L1). Despite their rotten patch, ‘De Stadionclub’ can draw confidence from their free-scoring form, having netted 2+ goals in nine of their last 11 fixtures! A quick-fire start could be paramount, considering four of Feyenoord’s five most recent matches at De Kuip have seen one or both sides fail to get on the scoresheet (W3, D1, L1).

In the meantime, Villarreal’s fifth-place finish in La Liga last season has triggered massive personnel changes, with several top first-team stars, including Nicolas Jackson and Samuel Chukwueze, leaving the club this summer. Quique Setien’s men have covered the losses with as many as seven new signings, but their pre-season results cannot inspire much confidence. Indeed, a 3-0 demolition of Austrian outfit Altach sandwiched by a pair of embarrassing defeats to St Gallen and Hannover 96, both of which feature a full-time margin of 3+ goals, leaves Villarreal’s bid to win their first-ever H2H against Feyenoord in tatters.
