Faroe Islands vs Spain 08/06/19

8 June 2019

Spain will try to stretch their international winning streak to four matches when they take on the Faroe Islands at Tórsvøllur in the European qualifiers.

Nailed to the bottom of Group F, the hosts have suffered back-to-back defeats in their opening two group stage outings, conceding six goals while scoring two in the process. Landsliðið’s poor run of form has seen them fail to pick up a win in seven consecutive matches across all competitions (D2, L5), with Lars Olsen’s men allowing over 1.5 match goals in all five of their losses in that period. Maybe the only encouraging fact for Olsen is that his team has sustained just one defeat in their previous seven home games (W3, D3, L1), even though they’ve managed to preserve one clean slate during the run.

Meanwhile, the visitors have started the European qualifiers off on the right foot, securing two routine triumphs over Norway and Malta, with the Red Fury scoring precisely two goals per match in each. Interestingly, four of Spain’s last five games have been settled by a narrow one-goal difference (W2, L2), with both of their losses ending with the same 3-2 scoreline. Luis Enrique’s men have been on a free-scoring form when on the road ever since returning from Russia, with Spain bagging 2+ match goals on all four of their previous road trips. Still, a potential worry for Enrique could be that his players have struggled to keep a blank sheet in three of those four games, allowing over 1.5 match goals once though.
