Everton vs Tottenham Hotspur 04/11/19

4 November 2019

The two sides sitting in the bottom half of the Premier League (PL) table come face-to-face at Goodison Park, as Everton face an out-of-sorts Tottenham Hotspur team.

The hosts are enduring a challenging period having sustained six defeats in their last eight league outings (W2), with four of those failures coming via a two-goal margin. But, far more comfortable at home, the Toffees have picked up nine of their ten total PL points at Goodison (W3, L2). Interestingly, two of those home results (win/loss) have produced over 3.5 goals and seen both teams score, while all of the remaining three featured under 2.5 goals and witnessed the winners of the day keep a clean sheet. Notably, none of Everton’s last nine top-flight home matches has ended in a draw (W7, D2), with six of their wins in that sequence being accompanied by a blank sheet. However, Marco Silva’s men have not only lost both of their previous PL home H2Hs with Tottenham by at least a three-goal margin, but they’ve also failed to come out on top at home since 2012 (D3, L3).

On the other hand, the visitors are presented with a huge opportunity to put an end to their disappointing three-game winless PL run (D1, L2), as they tackle a side they’ve not lost to in 13 straight top-flight H2Hs (W7, D6). A dreadful start to the season (W3, D3, L4) sees last season’s Champions League runners-up stuck in the middle of the table, only four points above the relegation zone. What’s more, the Londoners have struggled to pull off a top-flight away triumph since late January, losing nine of 11 PL trips since a 2-1 win over Fulham (D2). Frustratingly for Mauricio Pochettino, seven of those defeats have come via a single-goal margin, including last weekend’s 2-1 failure against Liverpool at Anfield.
