Everton vs Manchester United 21/04/19

21 April 2019

An unpredictable Everton side welcomes Manchester United to Goodison Park for what will be a must-win game for the visitors if they look to secure the Champions League promotion.

An underwhelming campaign accompanied by a lot of ups and downs currently sees the hosts residing 9th in the table with legitimate chances of wrapping up the Europa League promotion. A shock 2-0 road loss to Fulham last time out has brought Everton’s three-game Premier League winning streak to an end, and it was also the first time after five straight PL outings that Marco Silva’s men have struggled to find the net. However, the Toffees are unbeaten in all three of their previous PL home clashes (W2, D1) having prevented their rivals from scoring in each. One thing that has been lacking in Everton’s recent home games were goals, as six of their last seven PL home games have featured under 2.5 goals, with just one producing goals on both ends.

Meanwhile, after suffering the Champions League elimination to Barcelona, the visitors can focus entirely on their Premier League commitments. Sitting sixth with a two-point deficit to fourth-placed Arsenal, the Red Devils have virtually no room for mistakes in the last five league fixtures. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men are enduring the most challenging period since the Norwegian’s arrival considering they’ve lost five of their previous seven games across all competitions (W2, L5). Furthermore, Pogba and Co. have lost four consecutive away clashes across three competitions, conceding over 1.5 match goals in each while failing to find the net on two occasions. Still, an encouraging fact for Solskjaer is that Man Utd have won three of four of their previous H2H meetings with Everton at this venue (W3, D1), netting over 1.5 match goals in all three triumphs.
