Everton vs Leciester City 01/01/19

01 January 2019

The 2019 Premier League action starts at the Goodison Park as Everton look to take on Leicester City hoping to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 loss to Brighton in their last league outing in 2018.

The Toffees are not going through the best of times, having secured just two Premier League wins in the previous seven matches. What’s more, Marco Silva’s men have suffered three losses in their last five league clashes, including a 6-2 defeat to Tottenham at home last time out. Winless in their last three home games (D2, L1), Everton will try to keep a clean sheet for the first time since November 2018 (7 successive games without a clean sheet). Their defensive frailties have seen them concede a minimum of two goals per match in their previous five league encounters. Meanwhile, the Toffees have scored at least one goal in each of their twelve home meetings across all competitions, bagging a minimum of two goals per match seven times in the process.

On the other hand, the visitors come into this encounter following a frustrating 1-0 road defeat to Cardiff City. Before last weekend’s failure, the Foxes have clinched two impressive league triumphs beating Chelsea 1-0 on the road and Manchester City 2-1 at the King Power Stadium. However, Leicester’s indifferent road form (W4, D2, L4) could be a major influence here as Claude Puel’s men failed to secure all three points three times on their last four road trips (W1, D2, L1) keeping a clean sheet just once during the run. Goals have been in short supply in their last five road clashes with the Foxes conceding one goal or less per match while failing to score more than once per game in the process.

The last nine H2H meetings between the two at the Goodison Park produced over 2.5 goals with both teams finding the back of the net in each.
