Estonia vs Germany 14/10/19

14 October 2019

After a 2-2 home draw with Argentina in an international friendly, Germany travel to the A. Le Coq Arena to take on Estonia looking to maintain a 100 percent away record in the 2020 UEFA European Championship qualifying.

Dead-last Estonia have managed to snap a five-game losing streak in the qualifying with a goalless away draw with Belarus last time out. Notably, it was the first time in the ongoing qualifying campaign that the Blueshirts conceded less than two goals. However, it was the fourth qualifying match in which they’ve struggled to find the back of the net. Zero triumphs in the last seven games at home in all competitions (D1, L6) certainly gives Karel Voolaid a headache ahead of Estonia’s clash with the side that destroyed them 8-0 in the reversed fixture back in June. Another reason for concern is that the Blueshirts have conceded over 1.5 match goals seven of their last nine competitive games at home, keeping a clean sheet only once in the remaining three.

Second in the standings but level on points with leaders Holland and third-placed Northern Ireland, Die Mannschaft can’t afford to make a mistake here. Aside from a shock 4-2 home loss to the Netherlands, the visitors have won each of their remaining four qualifying matches by putting at least two goals past their rivals. Also, two of their three away victories in Group C have ended with the same 2-0 scoreline, with the third seeing them edge out Holland by a 3-2 scoreline. Germany’s away performances in the ongoing qualifying are a notable improvement on their away displays in the UEFA Nations League where they suffered two defeats in as many trips by a disappointing -4 goal difference (GF: 1, GA:5).
