England vs Spain 09/09/18

09 September 2018

England and Spain will kick off their UEFA Nations League journey at the Wembley Stadium in London, with the visitors desperately craving for a positive outcome after a scandalous World Cup display.

The Three Lions are highly motivated after a stunning World Cup success where they finished fourth despite low expectations before the start of the tournament. Gareth Southgate has found a right balance between young and experienced players, which resulted in England scoring eight goals in the group stage, finishing as runners-up in Group G right behind Belgium that managed to defeat them twice at the tournament, with that second victory came in the third place play-off match. The inspiring performance against Colombia and Sweden in the knockout stage certainly helped Southgate to embed a winning mentality in the dressing room, with Spain expected to experience all sorts of trouble at the largest stadium in London.

The Red Fury are looking for a way to makeup to the fans following a disastrous elimination by Russia in the round-of-16 clash, and a match against England comes out as an ideal opportunity for that. It is also a chance for Luis Enrique to start off his national team adventure on the right foot after taking charge of the team this summer.

Both sides will enter the encounter notably weakened, with Raheem Sterling and Adam Lallana withdrew from the squad due to injuries, while Diego Costa and Jordy Alba both ruled out for the visitants.
