England vs Belgium 29/06/18
29 June 2018
The two favorites to qualify for the knockout stage from Group G have already secured their places among the top sixteen teams of the final tournament, as England look to face off against Belgium in the final match of the group stage. Although they both had reasonably weak opponents, the Three Lions and De Rode Duivels are the two sides that showed the most of all favorites to lift the World Cup trophy, with Roberto Martínez’s team wrapping up two comfortable wins against Panama and Tunisia, scoring eight and conceding two goals in the process. The same goes for Gareth Southgate’s players who recorded tournament’s record victory when beating Panama by six goals to one. A head-to-head encounter between two European heavyweights will decide who is going to advance to the round of 16 from the first place, as both sides are currently level by all parameters. Belgium will seek their first triumph over England since 1936 after which they have lost seven times to perfidious Albion.
Currently, the leading goalscorer of the tournament, Harry Kane, is expected to spearhead England’s attack alongside the likes of Raheem Sterling and Jesse Lingard, while Romelu Lukaku, who scored four goals so far, should be the one to lead Belgium’s offensive department accompanied by the likes of Eden Hazard and Dries Mertens.
