Energie Cottbus vs Bayern Munich 13/08/19

13 August 2019

Energie Cottbus and Bayern Munich will face-off at the Stadion der Freundschaft in the first round of DFB Pokal, which will be their first H2H meeting since 2009. Interestingly, none of their 12 H2Hs in the 21st century has ended in a stalemate, with Bayern coming out on top ten times across those clashes (W10, L2).

Currently competing in the Regionalliga Nordost (fourth tier in German football), the hosts are considerable underdogs here although they’ve secured two wins in their first three league outings this term (W2, L1). All of those games have been accompanied by a lot of fireworks, with two of them producing over 6.5 goals and seeing both teams score over 1.5 match goals, with the remaining one featuring four goals. Also, all six of Cottbus’ last competitive home matches have seen both teams score, with five of them producing over 2.5 goals (W4, D1, L1).

Meanwhile, the visitors come into this clash after hammering the German lower-league side Rottach-Ergen 23-0 in a friendly meeting. The Bavarians have, however, already missed out on one trophy this term, losing 2-0 to arch-rivals Borussia Dortmund in the German Super Cup. Nonetheless, the reigning Bundesliga champions are unbeaten in their last competitive away matches (W5, D5), with seven of those games seeing both teams score. Interestingly, all five of Bayern’s wins in that period have seen them score two or more goals, while just one has been accompanied by a clean sheet. Also, they have clinched four wins in their last six visits here (W4, L2), all of which have seen them score at least two goals.
