Deportivo Alavés vs Real Madrid 30/11/19

30 November 2019

After being held to a 2-2 home draw to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, Real Madrid head to the Estadio Mendizorrotza to take on Deportivo Alavés in La Liga (LL).

The hosts’ upturn in results has seen them go from three straight LL games without a win (D1, L2) to back-to-back triumphs that have seen them score at least two goals and concede none. Far more comfortable on home turf, the ‘Babazorros’ have grabbed 14 of their total 18 LL points at the Mendizorrotza, with four of their five LL triumphs coming at this venue. Asier Garitano’s men will be desperate to replicate their last season’s performance against Real Madrid that brought them the first top-flight home win over Los Blancos in the 21st century (W1, D1, L5). If they win here, it will probably be accompanied by a clean sheet, as all five of their LL triumphs, this season, saw them shut out their opponents.

As for the visitors, they have racked up a four-game unbeaten LL run (W3, D1), winning two successive league games ahead of this trip. Notably, all of Real’s wins during the above streak have come via a margin of at least two goals, while only one of those matches saw them concede. But, Los Blancos’ away form has nothing to do with the fact they sit second in the standings, level on points with table-toppers Barcelona. Indeed, just 11 of their total 28 LL points have come on the road (39%), with Zinedine Zidane’s side clinching only two wins in their last five LL road trips (W2, D2, L1). But, the one consolation for the traveling side is that they’ve conceded just one goal in their previous four LL away matches.
