Deportivo Alaves vs Cadiz

Relegation-threatened Cadiz take a trip to the Estadio Mendizorrotza to meet already-relegated Deportivo Alaves in a must-win last-day La Liga fixture.

Alaves will be playing for pride, as they will join the Segunda Division next season irrespective of the result on the final day. After alternating between victories (3) and defeats (4) in their seven previous La Liga outings, ‘El Glorioso’ will be unable to climb off the foot of the table even if they win here. Julio Velazquez’s men will hope to give devastated home fans a memorable parting gift by bouncing back from a morale-crushing 3-1 defeat to Levante last time out that all but confirmed their relegation. However, before claiming a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture, Alaves had gone winless in their four previous La Liga H2Hs versus Cadiz (D3, L1), while they have failed to beat this opposition in their last five competitive meetings at home (D4, L1).

On the other hand, Cadiz’s abysmal return of one victory from five La Liga matches (D2, L2) leaves them in the drop zone, albeit they are level on points with 17th-placed Mallorca. It means only perfection will do on the final day of the season, especially considering Mallorca boast decent chances of overcoming underperforming Osasuna. ‘El Submarino Amarillo’ have taken five away points from a possible last 12 in La Liga, as many as they had in their previous eight away matches in the competition beforehand (W1, D2, L5). What’s more, a lack of scoring prowess has seen Cadiz net under 1.5 goals in their last seven La Liga fixtures on the road, highlighting the importance of drawing first blood.
