Deportivo Alaves vs Atletico Madrid 30/10/19

Deportivo Alaves will go after their first La Liga (LL) home triumph over Atletico Madrid since 2002 when the two sides lock horns at the Estadio Mendizorrotza at midweek.

The hosts come into this clash, hoping to bounce back after a 4-1 away defeat to Villarreal, which was their fourth reverse in their last six LL outings (W2). Interestingly, while both of their wins in that sequence have ended with the identical 2-0 scoreline, all four of those losses have seen them trail at halftime and concede at least two goals in total. Still, the ‘Babazorros’ boast a decent LL home record (W3, D1, L1), allowing just one goal in five league games in front of the home supporters so far – LL’s joint-best defensive record. But, for Alaves, goals have been at a premium this term, as only four LL teams have scored fewer home goals than Asier Garitano’s side (5).

Meanwhile, the visitors have a great chance to improve their indifferent LL away record (W2, D1, L1), as they head to Alaves whom they’ve beaten in three of their last four top-flight away H2Hs (D1). Additionally, four clean sheets in five road trips in all competitions this term suggest Los Colchoneros could prevent Alaves from finding the net in H2Hs for the sixth time in a row. A lack of goals can, however, be a stumbling block in Atletico’s bid to move top of the table after this round, as Diego Simeone’s men have drawn a blank twice in four LL trips already, scoring just three goals in total.
