Denmark vs Switzerland 13/10/19

13 October 2019

Denmark take on Switzerland this weekend in 2020 UEFA European Championship qualifying (ECQ) at the Telia Parken in Copenhagen.

Aside from a 5-1 home demolition of Georgia and a 6-0 away defeat of Gibraltar, the hosts have struggled to pick up three points in the remaining three ECQ fixtures (D3). However, the Danish Dynamite have done well at home since returning from Russia, putting together five straight games without a loss on home soil, friendly included (W3, D2). What’s more, Denmark’s last home loss dates back to October 2016 (1-0 to Montenegro), after which they’ve won four of the subsequent eight competitive home fixtures (W4, D4). While all of those games saw Åge Hareide’s side restrict their opponents to a maximum of one goal per match, each of those four triumphs has witnessed them net two or more goals.

Meanwhile, the visitors trail second-placed Denmark by one point but do have a game in hand on the home side. Although unbeaten in four ECQ matches (W2, D2), both of Switzerland’s triumphs have come against minnows Georgia and Gibraltar. In fact, those two victories have been Swiss’ only successes since the turn of the year (W2, D3, L1). Vladimir Petkovic’s men have failed to shine on the road since exiting the 2018 FIFA World Cup, securing only two wins in six away games, friendlies included (W2, D1, L3). Furthermore, the Nati have blown a 3-0 lead in the reversed fixture against Denmark (3-3), stretching their winless run in H2Hs to four games (D3, L1).
