Daegu vs Suwon

DGB Daegu Bank Park plays host to a high-stakes K League 1 playoff six-pointer between Daegu and Suwon.

Daegu came from behind to beat Pohang Steelers 3-2 in their Korean Cup quarter-final tie in midweek, stretching their unbeaten run to 15 games in all competitions (W7, D8). But Daegu’s impressive streak could give the home fans a false sense of security, as three of the home side’s last four league fixtures have ended as a draw (W1). By contrast, Alexandre Gama’s men have racked up three victories across their previous four top-flight matches on home turf (D1). Since each triumph in that four-game sequence came ‘to nil,’ scoring first could prove key to Daegu’s hopes of retaining the final playoff spot. That said, they’ve avoided defeat in 50% of their home league games in which they conceded the opening goal this term (W1, D1, L2).

In the meantime, visiting Suwon have undergone ahead of this trip, turning an underwhelming six-game winless league streak (D2, L4) into a three-match winning run. The visitors’ noticeable upturn in form has seen them close the gap on sixth-placed Daegu to only two points. If they can end a run of back-to-back league draws at Daegu, Suwon will overtake their hosts in the final playoff spot. It will require the ‘Dashers’ to put together two away league victories for the first time this season following a hard-earned 1-0 triumph at Gimcheon Sangmu last time out.
