Czech Republic vs England 12/10/19

12 October 2019

The Czech Republic face a pivotal fixture in their bid to qualify for Euro 2020 as they tackle an in-form England side at the Sinobo Stadium in Prague.

Sitting second in Group A, one point above third-placed Kosovo, the hosts will be looking to stretch their winning home streak in the ongoing qualifying campaign to three consecutive games. While all three of their wins in the qualifications saw Jaroslav Šilhavý’s side score two or more goals and concede one or less, both of their defeats have witnessed the opposite scenario. The Czech’s effort to settle the score with England after a humiliating 5-0 demolition on the road is backed by a solid run of home form that has seen the hosts win four of their last five competitive matches on home soil.

Meanwhile, the visitors comfortably top the group as the only nation to pick up all four triumphs. Notably, each of those England’s successes in the qualifying campaign has been followed by a margin of multiple goals, with Gareth Southgate’s men netting at least four goals per fixture. A potential worry for the Three Lions could be their indifferent away form since exiting the 2018 FIFA World Cup (W2, D3), especially as they’ve struggled to keep a clean sheet on three occasions in that period. However, entertainment has not been in short supply when it comes to England’s post-World Cup fixtures, as eight of their last 12 matches featured three or more goals.
