Crystal Palace VS Liverpool
Selhurst Park sets the stage for a lopsided Premier League showdown between Crystal Palace and Liverpool.
Little did anyone know Crystal Palace would enter Matchday 7 as one of only five winless Premier League clubs this season (D3, L3) following a superb seven-game unbeaten league run at the tail-end of last term (W6, D1). Stranded in the bottom three, Oliver Glasner’s men lament the division’s joint-lowest scoring record of only five goals from the opening six matches, with last weekend’s 2-1 defeat at Everton seeing them find the net before halftime for the first time this season. As the pressure builds on the German manager, the Eagles are keen to avoid a seven-match winless top-flight start, a feat they’ve encountered four times in club history, three of which resulted in relegation. Liverpool’s upcoming visit cannot inspire much confidence, considering they’ve only won once in the last 14 H2Hs (D2, L11).
However, Liverpool will know better than to underestimate their hosts after succumbing to a narrow 1-0 home defeat in their last meeting in mid-April. Yet, the Reds have been relentless at Selhurst Park since their most recent loss on this ground in 2014, picking up eight victories on nine ensuing visits in the Premier League (D1). That bodes well as Arne Slot looks to protect his near-faultless run at the helm of the Merseyside giants (W8, L1) after a routine 2-0 home win against Bologna in midweek Champions League action. The Dutchman has overseen four victories in as many competitive away games in charge of Liverpool, with his side bagging 2+ goals on each occasion. Extending that run would see the Anfield outfit win their first four away matches in the Premier League for only the third time in club history.
