Croatia vs Hungary 11/10/19
11 October 2019
Croatia will have revenge on their minds when they entertain Hungary at the Stadion Poljud in the 2020 European Championship Qualifying (ECQ) fixture.
Unbeaten in the last three ECQ matches (W2, D1), the hosts will be looking to settle the score with Hungary following a 2-1 defeat in the reversed fixture. It was one of three defeats the 2018 World Cup runners-up have suffered since returning from Russia, friendlies excluded (W4, D2, L3). However, the Blazers have put together three successive competitive home triumphs ahead of this clash, all of which have seen them net 2+ match goals and concede at least one. Interestingly, four of Croatia’s five ECQ games have witnessed both teams score, with three of them ending with the same 2-1 scoreline (W2, L1).
Sitting one point adrift their upcoming opponents, the visitors have endured mixed fortunes in the opening five games of Group E (W3, L2). Four of Hungary’s five results in the ongoing qualifying campaign have seen the side to break the deadlock walk away with all three points, with three of those matches being settled by a narrow one-goal margin. Far more comfortable when at home, the Magyars have picked up only one triumph in their last eight trips in all competitions (W1, D1, L6). Frustratingly for the head coach Marco Rossi, his men have failed to find the back of the net in five of those defeats, with half of them (3) ending with the identical 1-0 scoreline against their favor.
