Costa Rica vs Jamaica 27/03/19
27 March 2019
Costa Rica and Jamaica won’t be going head-to-head in the World Cup qualifying group as they did in 2016, but both teams continue their preparation for the upcoming competitive commitments with a friendly at the Estadio Nacional de Costa Rica in San Jose.
The hosts are still trying to catch their breath after a disappointing 2018 FIFA World Cup appearances as they’ve exited the final tournament with a single point and a -3 goal difference. Los Ticos’s struggling for form has continued in the post-World Cup period as they’ve suffered four successive defeats, conceding 2+ match goals in each. Although they’ve seemed to be back on track after securing back-to-back wins over Chile and Peru, Gustavo Matosas’ men are experiencing another downfall having sustained two straight losses without finding the net.
Meanwhile, a 2-0 loss to El Salvador last time out has brought the visitors’ three-game winning run to an end. Interestingly, all seven of Jamaica’s previous defeats have seen them concede over 1.5 goals per game, while all six of their last wins saw them bagging 2+ match goals. The Reggae Boyz have also managed to entertain the neutral, with five of their previous seven clashes producing over 2.5 goals while the remaining two ending with the same 2-0 scoreline against their favor. Theodore Whitmore’s men now look to post their first victory over Costa Rica since 2010 and snap a seven-game winless run against the North American rivals in H2Hs (D5, L2).
