Chile vs Uruguay 25/06/19

25 June 2019

Chile and Uruguay will battle it out for the top place in Group C when the two nations meet at the Maracanã in Sao Paulo at midweek.

The defending champions have won both of their previous matches at the tournament, scoring six goals while conceding just one in the process. As a result, they are now on a four-game unbeaten run (W3, D1), with all three of their triumphs in that period seeing them score over 1.5 match goals. Still, a potential worry for Reinaldo Rueda could be that his players have struggled to preserve a blank slate in six of their last seven games over the past eight months, allowing 2+ goals per match only twice though. Also, La Roja have not lost to Uruguay in two of their previous H2Hs at Copa America (W1, D1), with both of those clashes featuring under 2.5 goals.

Meanwhile, after a 4-0 triumph over Ecuador on the opening matchday, the Uruguayans have struggled to achieve another victory in the second round of fixture, being held to a 2-2 draw to Japan. Now, La Celeste must pick up all three points here to finish top of Group C and avoid Colombia in the quarter-finals. Óscar Tabárez’s men are unbeaten in their last five outings (W4, D1), with all of those matches producing over 2.5 goals, with Uruguay netting 3+ match goals in all four of those wins while keeping a clean sheet in each. Although they remain odds-on favorites to win here, Uruguay have suffered three defeats in their last five H2H meetings with Chile (W2, L3), with three of those games featuring over 2.5 goals.
