Chievo Verona vs Sampdoria 19/05/19

19 May 2019

Two sides that have had identical returns from their last three Serie A games (D1, L2) go head-to-head in Sunday’s round of SA fixtures as Chievo Verona host Sampdoria to the Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi.

Rock-bottom hosts have lost two of their last SA outings, conceding six goals while failing to find the net in the process. It will be the last chance for Chievo to grab their elusive first SA home win in 2019, as they’ve lost six of eight SA home fixtures since the turn of the year (D2, L6). Arguably one of the worst season performances in Serie A history has seen the Flying Donkeys registering just two league wins in 36 SA games (W2, D12, L22). Furthermore, the Gialloblu’s tally of 75 goals conceded is by far SA’s low, with Domenico Di Carlo’s men struggling to keep a blank sheet in 31 of 36 SA games. What’s more, no team has scored fewer goals than Chievo (25) this term, with 14 of those goals arriving at home (56%).

Meanwhile, the visitors come into this meeting after racking up a four-game SA winless run (D1, L3), with Marco Giampaolo’s men conceding 2+ match goals across all four of those encounters. Additionally, a run of poor has seen them pick up just one point on their last three SA road trips while conceding over 1.5 match goals each time in the process. Notably, all eight of Sampdoria’s away league games in 2019 have produced over 2.5 goals, with six of them featuring goals on both ends. A worrying fact for the traveling side is that they’ve allowed over 1.5 match goals seven times across those matches.

Interestingly, Chievo have won three of their previous four SA H2Hs with Sampdoria at this venue (W3, D1), with all of those wins ending with the same 2-1 scoreline.
