Chelsea vs Liverpool 30/09/18
30 September 2018
The Premier League encounter between Chelsea and Liverpool that shall take place at the Stamford Bridge this weekend will be the second head-to-head meeting between these two sides in less than five days.
In midweek’s Carabao Cup duel, Chelsea eliminated the Liverpool after an astonishing second-half comeback.
Up until last weekend’s scoreless draw with West Ham United at the London Stadium, the Blues have been unstoppable in the Premier League, recording five wins in the opening five fixtures. Mauricio Sarri’s side won all three home matches, scoring at least two goals in each one of those encounters, including three goals they’ve notched against Arsenal in the second round. However, in the past three duels with Liverpool at home, Chelsea have suffered two defeats, while clinching one triumph, only keeping a clean sheet once in the previous eight games.
As the only team to achieve all six victories, the Reds are currently topping the table with a 2-point lead over their weekend rivals. A match in London will be the Merseysiders’ fourth against the capital-based clubs, as they’ve previously outclassed West Ham, Crystal Palace, and Tottenham Hotspur. While managing to keep a clean sheet in all three home games, Jurgen Klopp’s team failed to protect their goal two times on the road, although they are yet to concede two goals in one league match so far.
Virgil Van Dijk, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Divock Origi are all ruled out with injuries in the home squad. As for the visitors, Antonio Rudiger, Marco van Ginkel, Pedro, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek won’t be playing due to various physical problems.
