Chelsea vs Liverpool 22/09/19

22 September 2019

Sunday’s Premier League (PL) action concludes with a blockbuster, heavyweight clash at Anfield with Liverpool and Chelsea facing each other in contrasting circumstances. Although both sides have lost their midweek’s European matches respectively without scoring a goal, the visitors are given more chances to prevail in this massive showdown.

The hosts have endured mixed fortunes at the beginning of the season (W2, D2, L1), with both of their PL draws arriving at home. Still unable to shore up his leaky defense, Franck Lampard has seen his team concede 11 goals already, with only Norwich allowing more than them (12). The Blues have not only struggled to keep a clean sheet in the PL this term, but they’ve conceded over 1.5 match goals in four of five league outings. An encouraging fact for the traveling side is a free-scoring form that has witnessed them score 2+ match goals in all three of their last PL games. The Pensioners have found it difficult to beat Liverpool in the PL recently, as they’ve managed just one triumph in the last nine league H2Hs (W1, D5, L3).

Currently sitting at the top of the table, the visitors are the only team in the English top tier that has won all five of the opening league matches. Although just one of those triumphs has seen the Merseyside club keep a clean sheet, all have witnessed them score at least two goals. Only Manchester City (16) have netted more PL goals than Liverpool (15) this term, with Jurgen Klopp’s men scoring at least one goal in nine of ten PL halves played so far. Moreover, the Reds have won six consecutive PL away games ahead of this trip, bagging 2+ match goals in each while restricting their rivals to a maximum of one goal per away fixture five times during the run.
