Chelsea vs Huddersfield Town 02/02/19

02 February 2019

After suffering a horror 4-0 road loss to Bournemouth, Chelsea will try to make things right against a dead-last Huddersfield Town side at Stamford Bridge.

Back-to-back Premier League defeats have seen Chelsea conceding the fourth place to Arsenal although both sides have the same number of points. Moreover, the Blues’ poor haul of just seven points in their last five PL outings has allowed Manchester United to interfere in the Champions League promotion race, given the Red Devils now trail the London rivals by just two points. Hence, victory is imperative for Mauricio Sarri’s ‘unmotivated’ players, who have managed just one triumph in their last three PL home clashes (W1, D1, L1). The fact that Chelsea secured five wins in six encounters with the bottom five teams can provide encouragement Sarri needs at the moment (W5, D1). Goals have been in short supply in Chelsea’s last six PL games at Stamford Bridge as just one of them produced over 2.5 goals, with the Pensioners keeping a clean sheet in four.

On the other hand, the rock-bottom visitors have lost four of their last five PL road encounters (D1, L4), failing to hit the net three times in the sequence. Only one team has scored fewer goals away from home than Huddersfield (8) this term, with the Terriers bagging over 1.5 goals per match just once in 11 PL road games so far. Meanwhile, Jan Siewert’s managerial debut with Huddersfield is not the one to remember, considering his side lost 1-0 to Everton at home. In case of another failure, the Terriers may have to start thinking about a life in Championship as they currently sit 12 points adrift of the safety zone. Seven defeats in seven meetings with the Premier League top-five outfits and a -17 goal difference suggest the visitors don’t have plenty of reason to be excited.
