Chelsea vs Aston Villa 05/12/19
5 December 2019
Chelsea will be looking to bounce back after a shock 1-0 home defeat to West Ham at the weekend when they take on Aston Villa at Stamford Bridge this midweek.
Chelsea’s dip in form has seen them go from six straight PL victories to back-to-back defeats, both of which have seen them go down by a single-goal margin. Although only three sides have netted more PL goals than Chelsea (28) so far, only nine of them have arrived at Stamford Bridge (32%). Also, Franck Lampard’s men have scored one goal or less in three of their last five PL home outings. But, the Blues can build their comeback on their recent top-flight H2H record against Aston Villa at home (W4), especially given that they’ve scored at least two goals in all of those triumphs, shutting out the Villans three times in the process.
Meanwhile, the returnees have managed to overcome a slight crisis (L2), putting together two straight PL games without a loss (W1, D1). Three of those four matches have produced over 2.5 goals and witnessed both teams score. However, Aston Villa’s disappointing away record could be a massive influence here (W1, D1, L5), especially as three of those defeats came against last season’s top-six sides, with each of them seeing Villa concede precisely three second-half goals. Nevertheless, Dean Smith’s men have been regular on the scoresheet away from home recently, bagging 2+ match goals in three of their last five PL trips, while drawing a blank once in the remaining two.
