Celtic vs Motherwell 30/08/20
30 August 2020
Rocked by a Champions League elimination to Ferencvaros, Celtic will be looking to bounce back when they take on Motherwell at Celtic Park this weekend.
Reigning champions enjoyed a decent start to the new league season, winning two of their opening three Premiership fixtures (D1). Quick-start Celtic have opened the scoring in each of those matches, doing that 20 minutes into the game twice. A 5-1 thumping of Hamilton on the opening matchday now means the ‘Hoops’ have won all five of their Premiership home encounters this calendar year, four of which via at least a three-goal margin. Another landslide victory is a virtual-certainty, given Neil Lennon’s men have won all nine of their previous competitive H2Hs held at this venue by at least a two-goal margin each. Yet, both of their league goals conceded this season arrived before the break, with each coming from a set-piece.
Meanwhile, a 5-1 dismantling of the Irish outfit Glentoran in the Europa League qualifying will boost Motherwell’s morale following a disappointing start to their Premiership campaign. The visitors have yet to taste success after the opening five rounds of the league fixtures (D2, L3), mainly due to their immense problems in the final third. In fact, the ‘Dossers’ have drawn a blank four times in five Premiership outings so far, with each of their three defeats yielding the identical 1-0 scoreline. Motherwell’s only goals for the season came in the first half of a 2-2 home draw with Livingston on Matchday 3.
