Celta Vigo vs Sevilla 10/02/20

10 February 2020

Relegation-threatened Celta Vigo welcome La Liga (LL) top-four fighters Sevilla to the Estadio de Balaídos this weekend.

Winless in eight consecutive league matches (D5, L3), the hosts will be chasing their first LL triumph since late November. Sitting one point adrift of the safe zone, the Celts have last won a league home fixture in October, failing to pick up a victory in six of their previous LL matches held here (D4, L2). For Celta, goals have been in short supply this season, with Óscar García Junyent’s side scoring just seven in 11 LL home games, on a miserly average of 0.63 goals per league home match. Furthermore, they remain the only team in the Spanish top division yet to score 2+ home goals on more than one occasion this campaign. Also, the Estadio de Balaídos has not exactly been the venue of entertainment this season, as just 18% (two) of Celta’s 11 top-flight games held here produced over 2.5 goals.

The visitors have, meanwhile, won only one of their last four LL fixtures (W1, D2, L1), with three of them featuring under 2.5 goals and seeing Sevilla draw a blank in the first half. However, the Andalusian giants have been more prolific before the break this season, with 64% (nine) of their 14 LL away goals scored coming in the first 45 minutes of play. Indeed, quick-start Sevilla have found the opening goal in nine of 11 LL road trips (81.82%), which makes them the quickest away starters in the league. Their winning ratio of 66.67% when they draw first blood means they are likely to seal a win here if they score the opening goal. But, Los Nervionenses have secured just one triumph in their last seven top-flight trips to Celta (W1, D2, L4), with all five of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet.
