Cagliari vs Inter Milan 02/03/19

2 March 2019

After being held to a disappointing 3-3 draw to Fiorentina, Inter Milan travel to Sardinia to take on Cagliari at the Sardegna Arena.

A poor haul of three points in their last five Serie A outings (W1, L4) has put the hosts in a difficult spot as they now sit just six points clear of the relegation zone. All four of the previous Cagliari’s defeats have seen them failed to find the back of the net, while they’ve allowed three goals per match twice in the process. However, Rolando Maran’s men feel very comfortable at the Sardegna Arena as 80% of the Rossoblu’s league wins have come at home, including their last one against Parma. Moreover, although they’ve kept just four clean sheets in 12 SA home clashes so far, the Sardinians have allowed 14 goals on an average of 1.17 goals conceded per match. But, Cagliari’s defense has been underperforming recently, failing to preserve a clean slate in eight consecutive games across all competitions. In that period, they have allowed 2+ match goals on five occasions, while conceding a goal in the second half seven times.

Meanwhile, the visitors look to bounce back after dropping two points against Fiorentina thanks to the referee’s dreadful mistake in the final seconds of the encounter. With AC Milan and AS Roma lurking in the shadows, the Milanese giants need to wrap up all three points here in order to preserve the Champions League promotion spot. That unfortunate draw has brought Inter’s four-game winning run to an end, but it was the third successive match in which the Nerazzurri managed to score 2+ goals. Before facing the Viola, Luciano Spalletti’s men have conceded only three goals on six consecutive road trips across all competitions although they’ve scored just four in the process. The meeting with Cagliari seems to have arrived at the right time for Inter considering they’ve outplayed the Sardinians on their last three visits, scoring 2+ match goals each time.
