Burnley vs Wolverhampton Wanderers 30/03/19

30 March 2019

Out-of-form Burnley welcome an unpredictable Wolverhampton Wanderers side to Turf Moor craving for a positive outcome that would boost their chances of preserving the top-flight status for another season.

Having lost all four of their previous Premier League fixtures, the hosts currently reside 17th in the table and are frantically looking over their shoulders. Sitting just two points away from 18th-placed Cardiff City, the Clarets have to find the way to snap a two-game PL home losing streak. The main reason for Burnley’s recent downfall is the shaky defense that has conceded over 1.5 goals per match in all four of their previous PL outings. Moreover, Sean Dyche’s men have failed to preserve a clean slate nine times in a row, and with 59 goals conceded in 31 PL rounds, they are the second-worst defensive team in the English top tier.

The visitors, meanwhile, hope to bring a three-game PL winless run to an end (D2, L1) as they still run for the Europa League promotion in the first season since rejoining the top flight. But, Wolverhampton’s indifferent road form (W5, D5, L5) could be a major influence here, especially considering Nuno Espirito Santo’s men are dealing with a negative -1 goal difference (S16, C17). Quite uninspiring in the final third, but very stubborn at the back, Wolves have provided a little joy to the neutral in the recent period, with six of their previous seven games across all competitions producing under 2.5 goals. Moreover, the Wanderers have scored 2+ match goals only twice in that period but have restricted their rivals to a maximum of one match goal every single time.
