Burnley vs Manchester United 02/09/18
02 September 2018
After a scandalous 3-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at the Old Trafford earlier this week, Manchester United will travel to Turf Moor to face off against Burnley, hoping to clinch a precious victory that could be crucial for Jose Mourinho’s faith. The Clarets have started the new campaign with an uninspiring 0-0 draw with Southampton on the road, after which they suffered two straight defeats to Watford and Fulham, conceding seven goals in the process, and a disastrous defensive performance cost them a massive 3-1 loss to Olympiakos in the Europa League qualifying playoff tie. Meanwhile, the Red Devils, who have opened up the new Premier League campaign with a 2-1 win over Leicester City at home, lost the next two matches, 3-2 to Brighton & Hove Albion and 3-0 to the Spurs, and Mourinho is still to explain his team’s sudden drop in form. After conceding seven goals in the opening three games, Manchester United’s defense stands as the third worst in the league, which is quite concerning, considering they were the second-best defensive team last year behind Manchester City.
Sean Dyche won’t be able to count on Nick Pope and Steven Defour, as both are sidelined with injuries, while Sergio Romero, Diogo Dalot, and Marcos Rojo won’t be able to perform for the visitors.
