Bulgaria vs Hungary 09/10/20
09 October 2020
Bulgaria (FIFA rank: #60) and Hungary (#52) battle it out for a place in the EURO play-off final, as the two nations meet at the Nacionalen Stadion Vasil Levski.
The hosts failed to wrap up three points in both of their matches during last month’s international break (D1, L1), conceding precisely one goal beyond the 90-minute mark on both of those occasions. Going back to October 2018, the ‘Lions’ have only racked up two victories from 14 competitive fixtures (W2, D6, L6), with six of those eight results (wins/losses) yielding a full-time margin of a single goal. For Georgi Dermendziev’s men, goals have been at a premium lately, as they’ve drawn a blank in three of their last five home outings, netting precisely one apiece in the remaining two. However, Bulgaria must be confident of scoring here, after finding the back of the net in ten of their 11 H2H meetings since 1934 (W2, D2, L7).
Meanwhile, the visitors endured mixed fortunes during last month’s international break (W1, L1), with each result producing a narrow one-goal margin. As a result, none of Hungary’s previous 12 competitive matches have ended in a stalemate (W7, L5), with the majority (66.67%) of those fixtures seeing the winner on the day preserve a blank sheet (eight). In turn, each of their previous three competitive road trips has seen the losing side fail to get on the scoresheet (W1, L2). Interestingly, the record in their H2H clashes held in Bulgaria is perfectly split (W2, L2), although their last two trips to the country resulted in a loss.
