The 2019 Copa America final that will take place at the Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro this weekend will see Brazil and Peru going head-to-head for the ultimate prize.

Brazil came out on top when the two sides faced off in the group stage, sweeping Peru aside with a commanding 5-0 triumph. The Selecao are not only the only nation that has yet to suffer a loss (W3, D2), but they are the only team that has yet to concede a goal at the tournament after beating bitter rivals Argentina 2-0 in the semi-finals to seal their place in the big final. Moreover, Thiago Silva and Co. have permitted just three shots on target in the knockout stage – less than any other side. Widely regarded as the leading candidates to win the competition, Tite’s team has scored more goals than any other nation at the tournament (10), even though they’ve struggled to find the net in two of five CA outings.

Interestingly, although Peru failed to hit the net in three of five games at Copa America, they are the third joint-best attacking team at the competition (6) as they’ve scored precisely three goals per match against both Bolivia in the group stage and Chile in the semi-finals. Notably, five of six matches in the knockout stage have featured under 2.5 goals, with Peru’s semi-final clash with Chile being the only exception. Although they’ve kept a clean sheet in both of their knockout-phase outings, the Peruvians have allowed ten shots of target, which may come costly against Brazil. Still, apart from conceding five goals against Brazil, Los Incas have allowed just one goal in the remaining four matches at the tournament, which is the third joint-best record (3 clean sheets).

Five of the last six H2H meetings between these two national teams have not witnessed goals at both ends although four of them have featured over 2.5 goals. Also, Peru’s recent record against Brazil is not encouraging (W1, L5), with Brazil netting over 1.5 match goals in all five of their wins across that period.
