Brazil vs Chile

Estadio Olimpico Nilton Santos is the venue as Brazil and Chile battle it out for a place in the Copa America 2021 semi-finals.

Brazil’s quest to become the first host nation to win back-to-back Copa America tournaments has seen them win their opening three group stage matches before being held to a 1-1 draw to Ecuador on Matchday 4. Before Ecuador’s equalizer, the ‘Selecao’ had kept seven consecutive second-half clean sheets. Additionally, since the beginning of the Copa America 2019, the Brazilians haven’t lost any of their 16. games on home soil (W14, D2). Virtually unstoppable before half-time, Tite’s men have claimed a 1-0 half-time lead in four of their last five internationals against CONMEBOL opposition. However, they’ve failed to register a shutout against continental rivals in back-to-back fixtures for the first time in five years. Interestingly, none of their last three competitive meetings with Chile have ended in a draw (W2, L1), with each encounter seeing the victor keep a clean sheet.

Meanwhile, Chile endured an underwhelming Copa America 2021 group stage campaign, picking up a single win from four Gropu A fixtures (D2, L1), netting under 1.5 goals on each occasion. Looking to qualify for the Copa America semi-finals in four tournament editions in a row, the Chileans will have to improve their attacking set-up, having scored 2+ goals just once in their last seven internationals. A low-scoring theme has highlighted Chile’s recent matches, with each of their previous six outings producing under 2.5 total goals and four of them featuring the identical 1-1 scoreline. On a positive note, though, ‘La Roja’ have suffered just three defeats in their last six matches against Brazil (W1, D2) after losing eight H2H encounters in a row. Also, Chile have lost each of their three Copa America games against this opposition in the 21st century.
