Borussia Monchengladbach vs Nurnberg 19/12/18

19 December 2018

Borussia Monchengladbach welcome a vulnerable Nurnberg side to the Borussia-Park looking to clinch their eighth consecutive home win in the Bundesliga this campaign.

After a 2-0 road loss to RB Leipzig a fortnight ago, the Borussians have suffered another setback away from home, playing out a goalless draw with TSG Hoffenheim during the weekend. However, the Foals are the only team in the German top tier competition to secure all seven wins at home so far, and they’ve done it in some style. Their tally of 23 goals scored in front of the local supporters is the second-best in the Bundesliga, with Dieter Hecking’s players scoring a minimum of two goals per match in all of their home meetings this term. Meanwhile, no team shipped fewer goals than Borussia Monchengladbach (4) at home this season, with Yann Sommer keeping a clean sheet three times in the last five games at the Borussia-Park.

On the other hand, Nurnberg’s misery after returning to the top flight continues, after the returnees suffered fourth Bundesliga defeat in their previous five outings by losing 2-0 to Wolfsburg at home. Michael Köllner’s principal worry ahead of this trip is that his players failed to keep a clean sheet in their last nine league encounters, conceding a minimum of two goals per match seven times in the process. Furthermore, Der Ruhmreiche are the worst road team in the German top flight (W0, D2, L5) this season. Their defensive frailties have seen them conceded more goals on the road than any other team in the Bundesliga so far (25). Additionally, they’ve lost on four out of last five road trips, in which they’ve allowed at least three goals per match.
