Borussia Monchengladbach will be looking to return to winning ways in the Bundesliga (BL) when they take on out-of-sorts Mainz 05 at Borussia-Park this weekend.

The hosts have won just one of their previous four league outings (W1, D1, L2) and are now trailing table-toppers RB Leipzig by five points. Three of those four matches have featured under 2.5 goals, with Monchengladbach’s only success in that period coming on home turf. Far more comfortable at home, the Foals have registered 22 of their 35 BL points at Borussia-Park (62%), with 63% of their total league wins coming at this venue. Indeed, Marco Rose’s side have established themselves as a force to be reckoned with at home, winning all six of their last BL home fixtures. Curiously, each of those triumphs has seen Monchengladbach fail to keep a clean sheet, with two witnessing them ship the opening goal.

Meanwhile, the visitors are going through a rough period, having picked up just one win in their last five BL fixtures, losing the other four. Notably, three of those results (win/loss) during that five-game sequence have seen the winners on the day keep a clean sheet and score precisely one goal beyond the 80th minute. Things go from bad to worse for Mainz when they hit the road. In fact, ‘Die Nullfünfer’ have suffered six defeats in nine BL away matches so far this season (W3), with half of those failures seeing Mainz draw a blank. Their dismal away record is unlikely to improve here, considering the ‘Karnevalsverein’ have won only once in their previous eight top-flight away H2Hs with Monchengladbach, sustaining five defeats in the other seven (D2).
