Borussia Monchengladbach vs Freiburg 16/03/19
16 March 2019
Struggling Borussia Monchengladbach welcome Freiburg to the Borussia-Park obliged to secure a triumph and keep the distance between them and fifth-placed Eintracht Frankfurt at three points.
Currently running for the top-four finish, the hosts chase their second successive Bundesliga victory following a narrow 1-0 road win over Mainz 05 last time out. It was that success that has brought Borussia’s frustrating four-game BL winless run to an end (D1, L3) and was also the first time they’ve managed to preserve a clean slate since early February. A potential problem for the Foals could be the fact that they’ve struggled to score over 1.5 goals per match in five consecutive league outings, failing to find the back of the net in two of their previous three BL home clashes. However, the one thing Dieter Hecking can be happy about is that his men have outplayed Freiburg in all four of their previous H2H meetings at this venue, scoring eight goals while conceding just one in the process.
Meanwhile, the visitors are well clear of the relegation territory as they sit 11 points above 16th-placed Stuttgart, mainly thanks to two wins they’ve achieved in the last three Bundesliga fixtures (W2, L1). But, Freiburg’s main problem in the recent period has been their poor away displays that have seen them pick up just two points on their previous four BL road trips (D2, L2), as they remain one of the weakest road teams in the German top tier. Not only the Reds have bagged an average of 0.85 goals scored per match away from home, but they have allowed 21 goals in 12 BL road meetings, keeping a clean sheet just twice so far. Additionally, Christian Streich’s players have barely wrapped up one point in four road encounters with top-five teams (D1, L3), scoring just two goals while conceding eight during the run.
