Borussia Monchengladbach vs Chelsea 03/08/19
3 August 2019
Borussia Monchengladbach and Chelsea will face-off at Borussia-Park in a friendly match that will be the Blues’ final pre-season game ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
Although the German giants go into this fixture off the back of a 2-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao, they’ve been impressive in their pre-season so far. The Foals have secured six straight triumphs before the aforementioned failure, bagging 2+ match goals in five of those victories while keeping a clean sheet three times in the process. Interestingly, both of Monchengladbach’s last wins have ended with the same 2-1 scoreline, with Dieter Hecking’s men losing at the halftime break in each. Notably, all seven of the Prussians’ summer friendlies have seen a goal inside the opening 30 minutes, with six of them featuring goals in both halves.
Meanwhile, the Blues come into this match after clinching three consecutive wins, two of which have produced over 6.5 goals. Although Franck Lampard saw his players score 2+ match goals in four of six summer friendlies (W4, D1, L1), he has to worry about the fact they’ve managed to preserve a blank slate just once in the same period. Interestingly, eight of nine goals the Pensioners have conceded this pre-season have arrived in the second half, while nine of 16 goals they’ve scored this summer came before the halftime whistle. Similar to Monchengladbach, just one of Chelsea’s six summer friendlies has not featured in both halves, with four of them seeing at least one goal inside the first 30 minutes.
