Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayern Munich will face off at the Borussia-Park in the biggest match of this weekend’s Bundesliga (BL) fixtures.

An electric start to the season has seen the hosts pick up nine wins in the opening 13 BL outings (W9, D1, L3) and reach the top of the table. After failing to secure a win in the first two home games of the season, the Foals have racked up five consecutive triumphs at home, scoring at least three goals in the last four. But, a leaky defense could be a massive problem here, as Monchengladbach already allowed ten goals at home so far, struggling to keep a blank sheet in each of their previous six league matches here. What’s more, they have conceded precisely five goals in two of their last three BL H2Hs with Bayern, allowing two first-half goals on both of those occasions.

Rocked by a 2-1 home loss to Bayer Leverkusen, the reigning holders will try to bounce back quickly and reduce a four-point gap on their direct rivals. For the first time since Niko Kovac’s farewell, the Bavarians have struggled to keep a clean sheet and score more than one goal per match, halting a four-game winning streak in all competitions. An indifferent BL away form is enough for concern (W2, D2, L1), but the fact that Bayern lost twice in their last four BL trips to Monchengladbach gives a couple of more reasons for Hans-Dieter Flick to be wary (W2, L2). Also, the visitors have found it quite more difficult to score when away from home, as just 14 of their total 34 BL goals netted so far came on the road (41%). Encouragingly though, they’ve scored at least two goals in three of their last four BL away matches.
