Borussia Dortmund vs Wolfsburg 30/03/19

30 March 2019

The Bundesliga title contenders and the Champions League promotion battlers go head-to-head at the Signal Iduna Park as Borussia Dortmund take on Wolfsburg.

A disappointing haul of six points in five league fixtures has seen the hosts allowing Bayern Munich to close the gap and take over the top spot. Sharing the first place with the Bavarians at the moment, BVB can’t afford another mistake as they risk a new trophyless campaign. The Black and Yellows boast an almost perfect home record (W11, D2) as they remain the only team in the German top flight that is yet to lose at home this term. Moreover, Lucien Favre’s men have scored more goals at home than any other German side (43), bagging 3+ match goals in all four of their previous BL home outings. However, Favre is yet to solve Dortmund’s defensive frailties that have seen them concede at least one goal in eight straight home games across all competitions.

Meanwhile, sitting seventh in the table, five points adrift of fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach, the visitors look to snap a three-game winless run in H2Hs with BVB at this venue (D1, L2) and preserve their chances of reaching the Champions League promotion. A lack of consistency has seen the Wolves capturing just two wins on their last five BL road trips (W2, D1, L2). Both of Wolfsburg’s victories in that period have seen them beating their rivals to nil, while Bruno Labbadia’s players conceded 2+ match goals in all three of the remaining clashes during the run. Interestingly, seven of Wolfsburg’s previous nine BL away fixtures have produced over 2.5 goals, with five of them providing goals on both ends.
