Borussia Dortmund vs Paderborn 23/11/19

23 November 2019

Borussia Dortmund will be desperate to bounce back after a humiliating 4-0 away loss to Bayern Munich when they lock horns with the Bundesliga (BL) basement side Paderborn at the Signal Iduna Park this week.

A lack of consistency over the last six league fixtures (W2, D3, L1) has pushed the hosts down to the sixth place, as they now trail the league toppers Borussia Monchengladbach by six points. Far more comfortable on home turf, the BVB have secured 13 of their total 19 BL points at the Signal Iduna Park (68%). In fact, four of their five league victories have come at home, as well as, 65% of their total BL goals scored so far (15 of 23). Lucien Favre’s men have netted 2+ match goals in six of eight competitive home games this term and could be adding at least two more to their tally, given that they’ve bagged ten goals in their previous two competitive home H2H meetings with Paderborn (W2). A potential worry for the home fans could be Dortmund’s fragile defense that has failed to keep a clean sheet in four of their last five outings in all competitions, allowing over 1.5 match goals three times along the way.

Meanwhile, the visitors seem to be heading back to Germany’s second-tier, as they’ve lost nine of 11 BL fixtures since returning to the top flight (W1, D1, L9). Unsurprisingly, they’ve managed just one point in five BL road trips so far, conceding precisely three goals per away league game on three occasions already. If the returnees find the net here, it will probably be in the first half, considering that three of their total four BL away goals scored came inside the opening 25 minutes. But, for Paderborn, goals have been at a premium recently, as they’ve drawn a blank in four of their last five competitive matches.
