Borussia Dortmund vs Borussia Mönchengladbach 20/09/20
20 September 2020
The 2019/20 Bundesliga runners-up Borussia Dortmund welcome Borussia Mönchengladbach to the Signal Iduna Park for a massive, heavyweight clash. It should be a fixture of entertainment, considering five of their last six competitive H2Hs held at this venue have produced over 2.5 goals, with three containing at least four.
Signal Iduna Park oversaw a lot of action back in 2019/20, as 12 (70.59%) of Dortmund’s 17 Bundesliga matches held here last season featured over 2.5 goals. But, the hosts’ trademark in the previous league campaign was the ability to shut out their visitors. Indeed, Lucien Favre’s men kept a clean sheet in a league-high nine Bundesliga home clashes last season, conceding the division’s second joint-low 17 goals. Moreover, only Bayern Munich managed a better scoring ratio at home than ‘Die Borussen’ in 2019/20, as Dortmund netted an average of 2.70 goals per Bundesliga home game. Also, just one of their previous four home clashes against the last season’s top-five teams has resulted in a loss (W2, D1), with both of those wins yielding a clean sheet.
As for the visitors, they will fancy their chances against the side they’ve lost to in all six of their previous away Bundesliga H2Hs. That task grows more daunting considering ‘Die Fohlen’ scored under 1.5 goals in each of those match-ups. Mönchengladbach’s goal-scoring ratio on the road in 2019/20 can provide some comfort, though, as they then managed an average of 1.52 goals scored per Bundesliga trip despite drawing a blank in six (35.29%) of 17 such fixtures. Curiously, three of their previous four top-flight trips to the last season’s top-five sides have seen over 2.5 goals and both teams on the scoresheet (W1, D1, L2).
