Bolivia vs Argentina 14/10/20

14 October 2020

Argentina will be looking to build on a 1-0 home win over Ecuador when they lock horns with out-of-sorts Bolivia at the Estadio Hernando Siles on the World Cup qualification Matchday 2.

A 5-0 thumping to Brazil in their opening World Cup qualifier means the hosts have suffered nine defeats in their last ten outings, friendlies included (W1, L9). Notably, six of those losses have featured a multiple-goal margin, with five seeing Bolivia fail to get on the scoresheet. The one consolation for ‘La Verde’ is that they are unbeaten in each of their last three World Cup qualifying H2Hs as hosts (W2, D1), two of which saw them score 2+ goals. Remarkably, though, Cesar Farias’ men have sustained just two losses from their previous nine World Cup qualifiers held in La Paz (W5, D2, L2), keeping a clean sheet in four consecutive such contests.

Meanwhile, the visitors have racked up an eight-game unbeaten run ahead of this trip (W5, D3), scoring over 1.5 goals on five of those occasions. Against this backdrop, ‘La Albiceleste’ have established a habit of producing low-scoring World Cup qualifying fixtures, as six of their last seven have featured under 2.5 goals, with Argentina failing to find the back of the net in three. Furthermore, Lionel Scaloni’s men have played just three matches on the opposition territory since exiting the 2018 FIFA World Cup (W1, D1, L1), with both of those results (win/loss) seeing the winner on the day keep a clean sheet.
