Benfica vs Olympique Lyonnais 02/08/18
2 August 2018
At the Estádio Algarve stadium that is located between Faro and Loulé, in Portugal, Olympique Lyonnais will begin their International Champions Cup journey against Benfica. After a stunning second-half comeback against Borussia Dortmund when they managed to annul the BVB’s 2-goal lead from the first half and win the game on penalties, the Eagles failed to defend a 1-0 lead against Juventus, who scored a goal in the 84th minute that led the match to the penalty-shoot-out,where the Old Lady secured a comfortable victory. A match in Portugal will be Lyon’s first at this summer’s International Champions Cup, as the French team featured in four friendlies so far, recording two wins, against Fulham and Wolfsburg, while losing 3-1 to Huddersfield Town and drawing 2-2 with the Swiss side Sion. The last time these two clubs played against each other was in 2016 when Les Gones defeated Benfica in an international friendly by three goals to two.
Rui Vitoria will have all of his players fit and ready for the encounter, with the talented goalkeeper Mile Svilar seems ready to regain his place between the posts, while one of Nicolas Castillo and Haris Seferovic should lead Benfica’s attack in this match. On the other hand, the absence of Nabil Fekir will be the only thing that bothers Lyon’s coach Bruno Génésio.
