Benfica vs Bayern Munich 20/09/18

20 September 2018

Last year’s Primeira Liga runners-up Benfica will kick off their Champions League journey ahead of the home crowd, as they look to host Bayern Munich at the Estádio da Luz.

The Eagles are currently topping the Portuguese championship with a record of three wins and one draw and a +7 goal difference. After two comfortable wins over Guimaraes and Boavista, El Glorioso played out a 1-1 draw with Sporting Lisbon in a derby match. However, Rui Vitória has managed to gear up his team, as Benfica prepare to host the Bianconeri in a great atmosphere following three successive wins in three different competitions. A 4-1 win over PAOK in the Champions League playoff round, a 4-0 away win over Nacional in the domestic championship, as well as, a 2-1 success over Rio Ave in the League Cup will certainly help the home team enter the big showdown in the proper mood.

In the meantime, the Bavarians have been unstoppable this season. After wrapping up the first season’s trophy thanks to a stunning 5-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the German Super Cup Final, Niko Kovac’s side achieved three wins in the Bundesliga, over TSG Hoffenheim, Stuttgart, and Bayer Leverkusen, scoring three goals in each of those matches. The Reds have also outplayed Chicago Fire and Hamburger SV in the friendly games, as well as, the German lower-league team Drochtersen/Assel in the DFB Pokal.

Tyronne Ebuehi, Sebastien Corchia, and Filip Krovinovic are unavailable for the hosts, while Mats Hummels, Kingsley Coman, and Leon Goretzka won’t be playing for the visitors according to some reports.
