Bayern Munich vs Wolfsburg 09/03/19

09 March 2019

Bayern Munich and Wolfsburg are set for a head-to-head meeting at the Allianz Arena as the hosts look to stretch a four-game Bundesliga winning run.

The reigning holders have managed to close the gap on bitter rivals Borussia Dortmund as the two currently share the top spot of the Bundesliga table. Although a frustrating 3-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen seemed to be a major setback in Bayern’s title run-in, the Bavarians have moved up a gear to clinch four straight league triumphs, scoring 12 goals while conceding four in the process. What’s more, Niko Kovac’s men have gathered five successive BL home victories, beating their opponents with a comfortable 2-goal margin three times along the way. Given the fact, the fourth-best BL road offense arrives at the Allianz Arena, Kovac is pleased to know that only one team allowed fewer goals at home than Bayern (12) so far.

As for the visitors, a five-game BL winless streak (W3, D2) has propelled them back to the Champions League promotion race, as they currently sit seventh – four points adrift of fourth-placed Borussia Monchengladbach. Unbeaten on their last three BL road trips (W2, D1), the Wolves could not have hoped for a worse place to prolong their promising streak. Not only Wolfsburg chase their elusive first away triumph over Bayern in the 21st century, but the Wolves have lost on 19 consecutive visits to Munich before holding the Bavarians to a 2-2 draw last season. However, things seem to be going in the right direction for Bruno Labbadia’s men this campaign, as they boast the second-best BL road record (W7, D2, L3). Another promising fact for Labbadia is that his players have picked up three wins in four meetings with the top-five sides (W3, L1), scoring over 1.5 goals in each triumph.
